A extended voyage around the Land Down Under has been cancelled days after the tragic passing of an elderly female passenger who was stranded by the ship on a distant island.

Suzanne Rees had been trekking on the tropical location with fellow passengers from the vessel, but broke off from the group for a break. The liner left without her and came back after some time after the crew became aware the passenger was missing.

An extensive rescue mission discovered her body the next day.

Investigative bodies are investigating the incident, alongside law enforcement and the official investigator.

Chief Executive of the cruise operator announced that guests and staff on the ship were told that the continuation of the journey had been terminated due to the "sad loss and previous technical problems".

Via official communication, he mentioned that guests would be issued a total repayment, and said the organization was working "to coordinate the return journeys of the individuals via chartered flights".

Officials also published an updated announcement, and said they had "delivered a notice to the Captain" prohibiting any additional guests from boarding the liner.

The official said that they would visit the vessel in Cairns upon its coming back.

Sequence of Occurrences

The liner first departed the coastal city on 24 October, and was only 48 hours into the journey at the moment of the senior passenger's death. The remote island was the initial destination on the itinerary.

Guests on board - who generally pay substantial amounts of currency to take part in the expedition - were taken there for a daily excursion with the option of hiking or snorkeling.

The daughter of the elderly passenger said that her relatives was "shocked and distressed that the vessel left Lizard Island after an planned excursion without my parent".

Through her comments, she portrayed her parent as an "energetic octogenarian" who was a member of a bushwalking group.

"Based on limited information we have been informed, it appears that there was a lapse of responsibility and ordinary reasoning," she said.

She continued that she wished the inquiry would be able to pinpoint what "the company should have performed that might have saved Mum's existence".

"According to reports from the police that it was a exceptionally warm period, and mother became unwell on the hill climb," she revealed.

"She was asked her to go back, without accompaniment. Then the vessel left, apparently without conducting a headcount.

"At some stage in that chain of events, or not long after, mother passed away, without company."

Operator Reaction

In a statement, the CEO verified that the company was "collaborating extensively with investigators to support their examination".

He mentioned that the company was "deeply sorry that this has happened" and had extended its complete assistance to the loved ones.

The ship accommodates up to one hundred twenty passengers with 46 personnel, according to corporate details. It was specifically designed to reach distant areas of the Australian coastline and is outfitted with "tenders" - small boats used to take individuals on day excursions.

Occurrences like this are uncommon, and cruise ships have protocols to record which individuals are boarding or getting off, according to industry experts.

"Sneaking ashore or [back] on the ship really isn't an option," a specialist stated.

Cruise lines regard these methods with great importance and have "advanced technology in place to avoid such events from happening," the authority further stated.

"This is presumably a stunning - and unfortunate - single occurrence."
