Much like the recent storm swept through the north-west the night before, Manchester City blew Manchester United away at the Etihad. It was a statement 3-0 victory for their manager's side owing to goals from Knaak, Shaw and Hemp. It was a result that clearly signaled their championship potential as they reinforced their position at the league summit.

Consecutive Setbacks for United

This outcome signalled successive Women's Super League setbacks for Skinner's side for the maiden instance since spring 2024, leaving them a significant margin off the table toppers with their trophy ambitions hanging by a thread.

The Red Devils' capacity to manage league and European football with a small roster has been a widely debated topic since they secured entry to the Champions League. Looking at the schedule, it always appeared this was the week that would seriously challenge this fortitude. Unfortunately for the opposition, they seemed tired all game, the historic win against the French side clearly having taken a toll.
